In 2003 the Meridien hardware was replaced by the DNA hardware (DNA = Digital Nonlinear Accelerator), which is connected via FireWire, and Version 1 of the Media Composer HD was also introduced. With version 8 the Meridien hardware was introduced, which enabled the processing of uncompressed SD signals. The AVR 77, the best resolution that can be achieved, was generally accepted by television broadcasters, although it was dynamically compressed and reached a maximum factor of 2/1. With version 6.1 the Avid Broadcast Video Board ( ABVB ) was introduced. The online editing then performed on linear systems or the classic cutting table with a Edit Decision List (EDL). Therefore, initially only offline editing was possible. In order to still enable editing, lossy compression of the video data was used. At that time, however, the technical development of the hardware set the limits. This solution made it possible for the first time to effectively post-process video and audio material on a computer. In the early 1990s, the first non-linear system based on the Apple Macintosh platform and TrueVision's NuVista hardware was developed.
